Summary

This file concerns the welfare of dogs and cats and their traceability, handled under the ordinary legislative procedure in which Parliament and the Council of the EU legislate jointly to produce binding EU law. It was examined by the Agriculture and Rural Development committee together with Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, in the area of animal protection. The tabled amendments address traceability of dogs and cats to prevent illegal trade and trafficking, identification and registration in official databases, welfare rules and thresholds for breeding establishments, selling establishments, shelters and foster homes, veterinary visits, staff competencies, restrictions on antibiotic use, and neutering.
