## What the amendments focus on

Legislative proposal on establishing environmental quality standards (EQS) in the field of water policy. Amendments set rules for achieving good chemical status of surface waters under Directive 2000/60/EC, allowing Member States to set EQS for sediment and biota, designate mixing zones adjacent to discharge points, establish inventories of emissions, discharges and losses, and impose more stringent restrictions, with Commission verification and reporting obligations.
