## What the amendments focus on

A legislative dossier on the geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2). The amendments preserve Member States' right to determine areas for storage sites, set conditions for selecting geological formations to avoid leakage and environmental or health impacts, govern exploration permits, public participation and mapping of national CO2 storage capacity, and revise the rules and time periods for transferring responsibility for closed sites to the competent authority and for continued monitoring.
