## What the amendments focus on

An annual report on the activity of the Petitions Committee for 2008. The amendments address the growing number of citizens' petitions, cooperation by Member States and the Commission, admissibility and the subsidiarity principle, the forthcoming Citizens' Initiative, the European Ombudsman, and recurring petition themes such as environmental impact assessment, the Natura 2000 network and the Habitats and Birds Directives, water resources, energy-supply infrastructure and the single-seat petition.
