## What the amendments focus on

The dossier sets strategic goals and recommendations for the EU's maritime transport policy until 2018. The amendments address the maritime sector's competitiveness, training young people for maritime careers under the STCW and ILO Maritime Labour Conventions, seafarers' working conditions, the carbon footprint of vessels and ports, State aid, tonnage tax, flags of convenience, and piracy off Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden; some reject the Commission's policy.
