## What the amendments focus on

A consultation procedure to restructure the Community framework for the taxation of energy products and electricity. The amendments would split energy taxation into a CO2-related component and a general energy consumption component, debate whether the CO2 element should be optional, align it with the emission trading scheme, and provide for reductions or exemptions for households, charitable organisations, agriculture and forestry, with some amendments rejecting the Commission proposal.
