## What the amendments focus on

Legislation on water policy concerning priority substances. The amendments revise lists of priority and priority hazardous substances and their environmental quality standards (citing substances such as atrazine, lead, DEHP, octylphenols and 17-alpha-ethinylestradiol), adjust monitoring frequencies, reference the polluter-pays and precautionary principles under Article 191 TFEU, address pharmaceutical residues in surface water, a watch-list monitoring mechanism, and protection of water intended for human consumption.
