## What the amendments focus on

Own-initiative report on the modernisation of customs. Amendments stress the customs union's role in international trade and combating counterfeiting and illegal entry of goods, call for simpler legislation and interoperable computerised systems, harmonised physical checks and sanctions across Member States, cooperation within the WTO and World Customs Organisation, mutual recognition of Authorised Economic Operators, and rules on the origin of goods under the Customs Code.
