## What the amendments focus on

A recast directive on insurance distribution. Amendments extend the scope to agents, brokers, bancassurance operators, insurance undertakings, travel agents and car rental companies, and add pre-contractual disclosure and conflict-of-interest rules requiring intermediaries to state whether they give independent advice based on a fair analysis, their holdings in insurance undertakings, and registration, professionalism and freedom-of-establishment requirements for insurance and reinsurance intermediaries, all aimed at consumer protection.
