## What the amendments focus on

An own-initiative report on the protection of animals during transport. The amendments respond to the Commission's report on the implementing regulation, citing persistent welfare problems and uneven enforcement; they call for reduced transport volumes and journey times, an 8-hour limit for animals going to slaughter, transport of carcasses rather than live animals, EFSA-based provisions for horses and poultry, regional production and slaughter, and stronger inspections and sanctions.
