## What the amendments focus on

An own-initiative report on the food crisis, fraud in the food chain and control thereof. The amendments call for an EU definition of food fraud and harmonised sanctions, stronger official controls, traceability and country-of-origin labelling, improved coordination between national authorities, and private-sector anti-fraud initiatives; recitals cite cases such as horsemeat sold as beef and reference the European Food Safety Authority.
