# Recommendation for the Council, for the Commission and for the Vice-President of the Commission / High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on the changing geopolitical situation in East Asia and the need for closer cooperation with like-minded partners in the region

## What the amendments focus on

This own-initiative procedure is a recommendation on the changing geopolitical situation in East Asia and closer cooperation with like-minded partners. The amendments call for deeper cooperation with Japan, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan and engagement with ASEAN, defend freedom of navigation and UNCLOS, address China's coercion of Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait, the DPRK and Russia's involvement with it, secure supply chains for semiconductors and critical raw materials, EU maritime operations such as EUNAVFOR ATALANTA, IRINI and ASPIDES, the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, an EU-Taiwan cooperation framework with access to GOVSATCOM and IRIS, digital trade and technological sovereignty, and trade disputes with China.
