Summary
Own-initiative report on the Green Paper on better ship dismantling. The amendments address the dismantling of seagoing ships, including single-hull oil tankers, on shores in Southern Asia under degrading and environmentally damaging conditions, the classification of end-of-life ships as hazardous waste under the Basel Convention and the Waste Shipments Regulation, the draft IMO convention on ship recycling, child labour, and calls for binding minimum standards and stricter enforcement and inspections.
