Summary

A legislative proposal on the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market to counter illegally harvested timber. The amendments address illegal logging and deforestation, due diligence requirements for first-placing operators, the definition of applicable legislation and country of harvest, monitoring organisations, recognition of FLEGT VPAs and CITES and forest certification, penalties, protection of biodiversity and rights of indigenous peoples, and consideration of SMEs.
