Summary

"EU/São Tomé and Príncipe Fisheries Partnership Agreement: fishing opportunities and financial contribution" is a non-legislative procedure in which Parliament gives its consent to, or its opinion on, an act of the Council such as an international agreement. The Committee on Development handled it under fisheries agreements with African countries. The tabled amendments ask for greater transparency in identifying total catches and measures against illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, including improved monitoring in the São Tomé and Príncipe Exclusive Economic Zone. They call for EU vessel access limited to the surplus under maximum sustainable yield after local nutrition needs, for sustainable and artisanal fisheries, reinforced local government accountability, and annual implementation reports sent to Parliament and the Council.
