Summary

"Negotiations of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement. Recommendations to the Council, the Commission and the EEAS" is an own-initiative report, meaning Parliament sets out its own position without enacting binding law. The Committee on International Trade handled it under the subjects of bilateral trade agreements, relations with central and eastern Europe, and the European neighbourhood policy. The tabled amendments support opening negotiations on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with Moldova as part of the association agreement, urge the Commission to launch them without delay, and note the positive impact of the autonomous trade preferences granted in 2008. They call for removing technical, sanitary and phyto-sanitary barriers, further domestic reforms, and continued Visa Dialogue toward a visa-free regime, while noting the dispute over Transnistria.
