Enlargement: policies, criteria and EU's strategic interests

An own-initiative report on enlargement policies, criteria and the EU's strategic interests. The amendments rework recitals referencing Article 49 TEU and the Copenhagen accession criteria, the history of enlargement since 1973, its role in overcoming the Cold War division and fostering peace, stability and prosperity, the re-evaluation of accession criteria and procedures, the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance, and Parliament's role in the transparency of the process.
