Summary

This own-initiative report concerns the role of the common security and defence policy in climate-driven crises and natural disasters. The amendments, citing the Treaty provisions on civil protection and humanitarian aid and the European Consensus on Humanitarian Aid, address climate change as a threat multiplier for global security, extreme weather events and their economic cost including insurance, the destabilising effect of natural disasters on vulnerable and failing states, climate-driven conflicts, and a comprehensive approach linking the CSDP with humanitarian and development aid.
