Promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. Recast
This recast concerns the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. Under the ordinary legislative procedure, Parliament and the Council of the EU decide together and the result is binding EU law. Six committees, including Industry, Research and Energy and Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, worked on it under the subject of alternative and renewable energies. The tabled amendments propose a binding Union renewable target, energy cooperatives, a cap on food or feed crop biofuels, greenhouse gas emission saving thresholds, sustainability and human-rights safeguards for biofuels and biomass, forest biomass harvesting criteria, and multipliers for aviation, maritime and rail fuels. It shares subjects such as alternative and renewable energies with related files including Renewable Energy Directive.
