Summary
This own-initiative dossier concerns virtual currencies. The amendments revise recitals and provisions defining virtual currencies (VCs) and distributed ledger technology (DLT), referencing Bitcoin, the FATF guidance and the EBA, addressing transaction costs for payments and cross-border remittances, financial inclusion, the resilience of payment systems and micropayments, volatility and speculation, control by national central banks, the role of cash, and risks such as money laundering, terrorist financing and tax fraud.
