Summary
An own-initiative report on legitimate measures to protect whistle-blowers acting in the public interest when disclosing confidential information of companies and public bodies. The amendments call on the Commission and Member States to establish a minimum level of protection, set up an independent EU information-gathering, advisory and referral body, protect against retaliation and reprisals, safeguard anonymity and confidentiality, and weigh horizontal versus sector-specific legislation.
