Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): ERTUG Ismail (S&D)
Summary
This legislative-initiative dossier concerns odometer manipulation in motor vehicles and revision of the EU legal framework. The amendments describe odometer tampering as widespread fraud in the cross-border second-hand car market harming consumers, dealers, insurers and leasing companies and affecting road safety, cite national schemes such as Belgium's Car-Pass and the Netherlands' Nationale AutoPas, call for cross-border data exchange, and reference Directive 2014/45/EU and type-approval rules.
