Shortage of medicines - how to address an emerging problem

2020/2071(INI)·9th term·ENVI / INTA / ITRE / TRAN·INI - Own-initiative procedure·Completed
Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): COLIN-OESTERLÉ Nathalie (EPP)
Summary

Own-initiative report on shortages of medicines. Amendments note that the COVID-19 pandemic exposed the EU's over-reliance on a narrow set of countries for imports of active pharmaceutical ingredients and chemical raw materials, call for stepping up medicine production capacity in Europe, and debate intellectual property rights, the TRIPS agreement, free trade agreements and the WTO in relation to access to and availability of medicines.

Plenary votes

4 roll-call votes

In plenary, Parliament usually votes in steps: first on amendments to the text (sometimes split into parts, so Members can accept one half of a sentence and reject the other), then on the text as a whole. The “main vote” is the one that adopts or rejects the text itself. Each vote below shows exactly which step it was. How voting works →
