The effects of climate change on human rights and the role of environmental defenders on this matter

2020/2134(INI)·9th term·AFET / DEVE / ENVI / LIBE·INI - Own-initiative procedure·CompletedProcedure completed
Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): RODRÍGUEZ RAMOS María Soraya (Renew)
Summary

This own-initiative report addresses the effects of climate change on human rights and the role of environmental defenders. The amendments invoke the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Paris Agreement and the Aarhus Convention; they stress killings, harassment and surveillance of environmental defenders, the unequal impact of climate change on vulnerable populations and women, imported deforestation, carbon budgeting, and links between climate change and displacement.

33 roll-call votes

In plenary, Parliament usually votes in steps: first on amendments to the text (sometimes split into parts, so Members can accept one half of a sentence and reject the other), then on the text as a whole. The “main vote” is the one that adopts or rejects the text itself. Each vote below shows exactly which step it was. How voting works →
