Rapporteurs (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): BENIFEI Brando (S&D), TUDORACHE Dragoş (Renew)
Summary

The Artificial Intelligence Act is a proposed regulation laying down a uniform legal framework for AI; under the ordinary legislative procedure Parliament and the Council decide together and the result is binding EU law. It was handled by committees including Internal Market and Consumer Protection and Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, under digital technologies and robotics. The tabled amendments heavily add sustainability provisions, promoting green AI aligned with the European Green Deal and net-zero by 2050, carbon-footprint and energy reporting by developers, references to the Copernicus programme and healthcare, alongside classifying high-risk AI systems and requirements on data quality, transparency and human oversight. It shares subjects such as ICT and robotics with a civil liability regime for artificial intelligence.

In plenary, Parliament usually votes in steps: first on amendments to the text (sometimes split into parts, so Members can accept one half of a sentence and reject the other), then on the text as a whole. The “main vote” is the one that adopts or rejects the text itself. Each vote below shows exactly which step it was. How voting works →
