Packaging and packaging waste

2022/0396(COD)·9th term·AGRI / ENVI / IMCO / ITRE·COD - Ordinary legislative procedure (ex-codecision procedure)·CompletedProcedure completed
Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): RIES Frédérique (Renew)
Summary

The Packaging and packaging waste file is a proposed regulation on packaging placed on the Union market and packaging waste; under the ordinary legislative procedure Parliament and the Council decide together and the result is binding EU law. It was handled by committees including Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Agriculture and Rural Development, under waste management and packaging. The tabled amendments revise recitals around the Circular Economy Action Plan and reusable or recyclable packaging by 2030, attention to the agri-food sector and food-loss prevention, limits on heavy metals and substances of concern, delegated acts on design for recycling, and minimum recycled content in plastics. It shares waste management with a directive on batteries and waste batteries.

69 roll-call votes

In plenary, Parliament usually votes in steps: first on amendments to the text (sometimes split into parts, so Members can accept one half of a sentence and reject the other), then on the text as a whole. The “main vote” is the one that adopts or rejects the text itself. Each vote below shows exactly which step it was. How voting works →
