In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament objects to the draft Commission implementing decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 94804 under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003. The text explains that the GM maize was engineered to produce an artificial miRNA intended to suppress genes in the gibberellic acid pathway so as to reduce plant height, and it raises outstanding questions about the effects of the artificial miRNA on other regulatory networks and about the consequences of reduced gibberellin levels on plant processes such as germination, flowering and stress tolerance. It reports that Member States submitted many critical comments to EFSA on incomplete data, and that the Standing Committee delivered no opinion. Parliament takes the position that the authorisation should not proceed and addresses its objection to the Commission.
