2024/2952(RSP)·RSP·Official procedure file ↗

Resolution on a topical subject.

Summary

In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament condemns the shrinking of civic space in Cambodia and calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners, activists, journalists, human rights defenders and other civil society actors held on politically motivated charges. It calls on the Cambodian authorities to dismiss the politically motivated charges against the labour rights organisation CENTRAL and its members and to amend the Trade Union Law and the Law on Associations and Non-Governmental Organisations to align them with international human rights and labour standards. It calls on the Commission and the Member States to assess changes to tariff preferences under the Everything but Arms scheme based on the Cambodian Government's non-cooperation, and calls for targeted sanctions against those responsible for political repression. It also calls on companies sourcing from Cambodia to conduct human rights due diligence and asks the Member States and the EEAS to increase support for Cambodian civil society and human rights defenders.
