Empowering Austria to amend its existing bilateral road transport agreement with Switzerland with a view to authorising cabotage operations in the course of the provision of international road passenger transport services by coach and bus in the border regions between the two countries

2025/0407(COD)·10th term·TRAN·COD - Ordinary legislative procedure (ex-codecision procedure)·Completed
Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): VOZEMBERG-VRIONIDI Elissavet (EPP)
Summary

These amendments concern empowering Austria to amend its bilateral road transport agreement with Switzerland to authorise cabotage in coach and bus passenger services in the border regions of the two countries. They reference Austria's request by letter dated 17 March 2025 and note that this follows prior EU authorisations for similar agreements between Switzerland and Italy, France and Germany. Amendments stress that cabotage raises the load factor of vehicles and economic efficiency, fosters territorial cohesion and integration of the border regions, and promotes more sustainable mobility by reducing transport-related emissions.

In plenary, Parliament usually votes in steps: first on amendments to the text (sometimes split into parts, so Members can accept one half of a sentence and reject the other), then on the text as a whole. The “main vote” is the one that adopts or rejects the text itself. Each vote below shows exactly which step it was. How voting works →
