Interim report in view of the consent procedure on the Political, Economic and Cooperation Strategic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Mexico
This interim report concerns the consent procedure on the Political, Economic and Cooperation Strategic Partnership Agreement between the EU and Mexico. Amendments recall that the current agreement dates back to 2000 with mixed results, that Mexico has been a strategic partner since 2008, and welcome the modernised Agreement's political dialogue, digital trade, services, critical raw materials and public procurement access in 14 Mexican states. They express concern over drug trafficking and organised crime, multidimensional poverty affecting 29.6% of the population, corruption ranking Mexico 141st, the 2024 judicial reform introducing popular election of judges, femicides and enforced disappearances. They welcome the Investment Court System, the trade and sustainable development chapter with ILO labour standards, and commitments to climate neutrality by 2050.
