Product safety and regulatory compliance in e-commerce and non-EU imports
This own-initiative report concerns product safety and regulatory compliance in e-commerce and non-EU imports. The amendments address consumer health, safety and rights, competitiveness and a level playing field for SMEs against non-EU platforms, counterfeiting, the Digital Services Act, General Product Safety Regulation, Market Surveillance Regulation and Consumer Protection Cooperation Regulation, customs procedures and the Union Customs Code, dark patterns, data protection, and screening technologies.

Recalls the powers already conferred on market surveillance authorities in the current EU regulatory framework, in particular through Regulation (EU) 2019/1020 and Regulation (EU) 2017/2394, such as the powers to prohibit or restrict the making available of a product on the market or to order a hosting service provider to remove, disable or restrict access to an online interface; considers that a revision of this regulatory framework is not necessary; calls instead on the national market surveillance authorities to make full use of the possibilities offered by these regulations so they can react swiftly to the challenges posed by the rapid emergence of operators from non-EU countries;
