The dossier sets EU strategic objectives for the 20th Conference of the Parties to CITES. Amendments reference CITES Appendices I and II, resolutions on hunting trophies, elephants and ivory, tigers and rhinoceroses, captive-bred and ranched specimens, compliance and enforcement, wildlife trafficking and corruption, IUCN and biodiversity frameworks, marine and freshwater biodiversity, and the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.

Calls for a proportionate, case-by-case approach to hunting trophy imports in the EU, ensuring they originate from legal hunting activities; stresses that legal hunting can contribute to biodiversity conservation, habitat protection and the economic and social development of rural communities;
