Objection pursuant to Rule 115(2) and (3): Genetically modified maize DP51291

2025/2807(RSP)·RSP·Official procedure file ↗

Resolution on a topical subject.

Summary

In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament objects under Rule 115 to the Commission Implementing Decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize DP51291 under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003. It notes that neither the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed nor the Appeal Committee delivered an opinion, and it raises concerns about the maize's tolerance to glufosinate, a herbicide classified as toxic for reproduction whose EU approval expired in 2018, as well as the complex genetic engineering process and gaps in the assessment of agricultural practices, environmental factors and herbicide residues. The resolution addresses the Commission, contesting the authorisation of this GMO. It was adopted on 2025-10-08.
