Prudential supervision of credit institutions: conferring specific tasks on the European Central Bank (ECB)

A proposal conferring specific tasks on the European Central Bank concerning prudential supervision of credit institutions. The amendments rework recitals on the banking crisis and the single currency, the internal market for banking services, deregulation and renationalisation of banking markets, and the case for integrating supervisory responsibilities at Union level rather than leaving them national, with the ECB drawing on national competent authorities' expertise.
