Summary
The dossier establishes an EU common list of safe countries of origin for international protection. Amendments propose rejecting the Commission proposal, debate the safe country of origin concept and its non-absolute guarantee, address the increase in asylum applications, Commission monitoring and review, and the assessment of Western Balkans countries including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro.
