An own-initiative report on opening negotiations for an EU-Algeria agreement on the exchange of personal data between Europol and the Algerian competent authorities to fight serious crime and terrorism. The amendments stress respect for the Charter and the purpose-limitation principle, a prior impact assessment of necessity and proportionality, data protection essentially equivalent to EU law, clearly defined offences and authorities, retention and erasure rules, and an independent supervisory authority.
