Revision of the EU Emissions Trading System
The Revision of the EU Emissions Trading System is an ordinary legislative procedure, meaning Parliament and the Council of the EU decide together and the result is binding EU law. It was handled by the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Transport and Tourism committees, in the areas of climate policy, energy efficiency, atmospheric pollution and maritime transport. The tabled amendments address including maritime transport in the EU ETS under Directive 2003/87/EC and measures against evasive port calls, the Paris Agreement and loss and damage under the Warsaw International Mechanism, earmarking ETS revenues for climate action and the USD 100 billion pledge, and support for developing countries' decarbonisation. It shares subjects such as climate policy with related files including "2030 framework for climate and energy policies".
