The need for the EU’s continuous support for Ukraine

2024/2721(RSP)·RSP·Official procedure file ↗

Resolution on a topical subject.

Summary

In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament reaffirms its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders and the EU's commitment to provide political, financial, economic, humanitarian, military and diplomatic support for as long as it takes. It states that Ukraine has the legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter and welcomes the launch of EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. Parliament condemns the visit of the Hungarian Prime Minister to the Russian Federation, stating he did not represent the EU, considers it a violation of the EU Treaties, and urges Hungary to lift its blockade of European Peace Facility funding for Ukraine. It condemns the attack on the Ohmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv and calls on the EU and its Member States to increase military support to Ukraine, advocating that Member States and NATO allies commit no less than 0.25 % of their GDP annually.
