Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/2629 renewing the authorisation for the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 89034 × 1507 × MON 88017 × 59122 and eight of its sub-combinations pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, which states Parliament's political position without itself changing EU law, Parliament objects to Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/2629 renewing the authorisation to place on the market products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 89034 x 1507 x MON 88017 x 59122 and eight of its sub-combinations under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003. The resolution notes that the GM maize has been modified to be tolerant to glufosinate and glyphosate and to produce Bt insecticidal toxins, and it criticises the absence of an assessment of the complementary herbicides and of the potential interaction of herbicide residues with Bt toxins in the authorisation process. It raises concerns about increased herbicide use, effects on non-target organisms, and the toxicological classification of glufosinate and glyphosate. It also records that the relevant Standing Committee and the Appeal Committee delivered no opinion on the measure.
