The cases of unjustly imprisoned Uyghurs in China, notably Ilham Tohti and Gulshan Abbas
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament strongly condemns the People's Republic of China's violations of the human rights of Uyghurs and of people in Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, and urges the PRC to immediately and unconditionally release Ilham Tohti and Gulshan Abbas along with others arbitrarily detained. It calls on the EU and the Member States to apply pressure at every high-level contact and to adopt additional sanctions against high-ranking officials and entities involved in human rights violations. It demands that the PRC halt abusive policies against Uyghurs, including surveillance, forced labour, sterilisation and birth prevention measures, which it says amount to crimes against humanity and a serious risk of genocide, and calls for the closure of all internment camps. Parliament also calls on Member States and the international community to suspend extradition treaties with the PRC and Hong Kong and to address transnational repression, and welcomes the EU's forced labour regulation while insisting on its full implementation.

3a. Praises the work of the Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights who is again calling for the authorities to undertake a full review of the legal framework governing national security and counterterrorism; notes with great concern that this legal framework is extensively used to detain and convict Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim communities; notes, besides, a worrying increase in the use of the fight against terrorism as a pretext to repress populations or political opponents around the world;
