The draft Commission implementing decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 95275 pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament objects to the draft Commission implementing decision authorising the placing on the market of products containing, consisting of or produced from genetically modified maize MON 95275 under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003. It states that the maize produces two insecticidal proteins and expresses a DvSnf7 dsRNA targeting western corn rootworm, and it argues that EFSA's favourable opinion provides insufficient data on unintended genetic effects, off-target impacts on non-target organisms, and cumulative toxicity. Parliament considers that the draft decision exceeds the Commission's implementing powers and is not consistent with Union law, and it calls on the Commission to withdraw the draft, to submit a new one, and not to authorise the GM crops in line with the One Health approach. The resolution also calls on the Commission to ensure convergence of standards with partners in free trade agreement negotiations and notes concern that the EU-Mercosur agreement would increase imports of GM products.
