2025/2511(RSP)·RSP·Official procedure file ↗

Resolution on a topical subject.

Summary

In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament addresses the systematic repression of human rights in Iran, notably the cases of Pakhshan Azizi and Wrisha Moradi and the taking of EU citizens as hostages. It denounces the regime's repression, condemns the death sentences imposed on Azizi and Moradi, and demands the immediate and unconditional release of unjustly imprisoned human rights defenders and political prisoners, including at least 56 others on death row. Parliament reiterates its opposition to the death penalty and calls for a moratorium and abolition, urges the Iranian authorities to release and repatriate EU nationals detained through hostage diplomacy, and reiterates its call on the Council to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organisation and to extend sanctions on those responsible for human rights violations. It also calls for full access for the UN Special Rapporteur and fact-finding mission and for increased support to Iranian civil society.
