The dissolution of political parties and the crackdown on the opposition in Mali
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament addresses the dissolution of political parties and the crackdown on the opposition in Mali, noting that the military has ruled the country since the 2020 coup and that on 13 May 2025 the authorities dissolved political parties and repealed laws protecting political participation. It expresses deep concern about the political and security situation, strongly condemns the dissolution and the crackdown, and urges the Malian authorities to respect international human rights law and to immediately release those arrested or abducted for political reasons. Parliament notes with regret the continuing violence and Islamist terrorism, states that Russian-sponsored mercenaries have failed to bring stability, and calls for accountability for abuses including war crimes committed by the Wagner Group/Africa Corps. It encourages closer cooperation between the EU, ECOWAS and the African Union, expresses concern over migration flows from Mali, and instructs its President to forward the resolution to the Council, the Commission, the VP/HR, Mali's transitional president and other bodies.
