Political situation in Myanmar including the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament addresses the political situation in Myanmar, including the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingya. It recounts the military's seizure of power through the coup d'etat of 1 February 2021, the unlawful arrest of political leaders, the arrest of nearly 30 000 people, deaths in detention, escalating aerial bombardments and arson attacks on civilian infrastructure, and the displacement of approximately 3,6 million people, worsened by the earthquake of 28 March 2025. The text describes the persecution of the predominantly Muslim Rohingya minority, who are denied citizenship under the 1982 Citizenship Law and constitute the largest stateless population in the world, and notes intensifying violence in Rakhine State. It references the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus and states that genuine reconciliation, peace and democracy require the military junta to relinquish power and civilian governance to be restored.
