Escalating repression of the Baha'i in Iran
Resolution on a topical subject.
In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament strongly condemns the escalating persecution of the Baha'i community and the systemic suppression of religious and ethnic minorities and women in Iran, and calls on Iran to immediately cease all discrimination, harassment, detention, property confiscation and fundamental rights violations. It urges the immediate release of all individuals detained for their religion or belief, demands that the authorities overturn the convictions of named Baha'i women and release named detainees, and expresses deep concern over the targeting of Baha'i women, who account for two thirds of Baha'is imprisoned. The text urges Iran to repeal the 1991 Memorandum, return seized assets and provide legal remedies, and calls on the EU and Member States to raise religious freedom violations in all dialogue with Iran and to impose sanctions on Iranian judges, prosecutors and intelligence officers. It also reiterates its call on the Council to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organisation.
