Systemic oppression, inhumane conditions and arbitrary detentions by the regime in Iran

2026/2612(RSP)·RSP·Official procedure file ↗

Resolution on a topical subject.

Summary

In this non-legislative resolution, Parliament expresses solidarity with the Iranian people and deplores the Iranian regime's systematic use of arbitrary detention, torture, extrajudicial killings and the death penalty, calling for the immediate abolition of the death penalty. It calls on the regime to halt all violence against civilians, stop all executions and end repression, and demands the release of all persons in arbitrary detention, including foreign and dual nationals, women such as Narges Mohammadi, and those detained for their ethnicity or religion. It calls for atrocities to be independently documented by UN bodies and for the UN Security Council to refer Iran to the ICC, and urges the Council and Member States to expand and enforce targeted sanctions against those responsible, including IRGC members. Parliament also condemns the election of Iran as Vice-Chair of the UN Commission for Social Development and the regime's use of hostage diplomacy, and instructs its President to forward the resolution to the Council, the Commission, the VP/HR, the Member States, the UN and the Iranian authorities.
