Transparency of institutional investors

2007/2239(INI)·6th term·ECON / JURI·INI - Own-initiative procedure·Completed
Rapporteur (the Member appointed to lead Parliament's work on this text): BOWLES Sharon (ALDE)
Summary

This own-initiative report concerns the transparency of institutional investors. The amendments rework recitals on hedge funds and private equity funds — their diversification benefits and innovative strategies, the risk of regulatory fragmentation and arbitrage from divergent national rules in the internal market, and the need for greater transparency towards prime brokers, institutional and retail investors — while debating whether directives or industry self-regulation are the appropriate instrument.
