Tobacco and related products: manufacture, presentation and sale
This dossier concerns tobacco and related products, covering their manufacture, presentation and sale. Under the ordinary legislative procedure, Parliament and the Council of the EU decide together and the result is binding EU law. Six committees, including Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Internal Market and Consumer Protection, worked on it under subjects such as public health, consumer information and labelling. The tabled amendments address health warnings and labelling, characterising flavours, tracking and tracing of tobacco products outside industry control, prohibiting cross-border distance and internet sales, protecting traditional tobacco growing in disadvantaged and outermost regions, and referencing the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. It shares subjects such as industrial plants and tobacco with related files including the WHO Framework Convention Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.
