Summary

An own-initiative report on a strategy for the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in third countries. The amendments reference the TRIPS Agreement and the Doha Declaration on public health, the World Trade Organisation, counterfeiting of goods including medicines, the health and safety risks to consumers, the involvement of organised crime, customs controls, competitiveness, innovation and SMEs, and call for a balanced, informed debate weighing rightholders' and users' interests.
